Course objective: Gain competence in reading and writing; enrich vocabulary; improve listening and speaking skills; read selected newspapers articles and literary works (prose and poetry); increase knowledge of grammar; use of dictionary and verbs charts. 2 Course requirements: דרישות הקורס : Attendance and Participation Attendance is required. More than three absences may result in lowering the grade by one-half letter grade or more. Students are expected to prepare for class. Participation in class discussions and activities are extremely important Homework נוכחות והשתתפות נוכחות בכיתה חובה. יותר משלוש היעדרויות עשוי להביא להורדה של חצי ציון או יותר. הסטודנטים יבואו מוכנים לשיעור. השתתפות בשיחות ובפעילויות בכיתה חשובה ביותר. שיעורי בית Assignments must be turned on time. Assignments must be neat and legible. Please include date, name, title, and/or page number. יש להגיש את שיעורי הבית בזמן. יש להגיש עבודה מסודרת וקריאה. יש לכלול תאריך, שם וכותרת או מספר העמוד. Essays and Journals The writing process includes 1-2 drafts. Every Monday upload the journal to Latte. Quizzes Quizzes on vocabulary, grammar and texts once every two weeks. Meetings with a peer tutor are mandatory. Individual meeting with the instructor to work on speaking skills, prepare for presentations, etc. Participate in events, lectures, and movies that are recommended by the instructor. סטודנטים יתבקשו לצפות בטלוויזיה הישראלית (ערוץ 90) מחוץ לשעות השיעור. פגישות עם עמית הוראה חובה. פגישות אישיות עם המורה לשיחות, הכנה למצגת וכו'. הלומדים מתבקשים להשתתף בארועים, בהרצאות ובסרטים המומלצים על ידי המרצה.

Preparation time: Success in this 4 credit hour course is based on the expectation that students will spend a minimum of 9 hours of study time per week in preparation for class (readings, papers, discussion sections, preparation for exams, etc.). Academic Honesty: You must complete all assignments alone. In your writing, you must follow rules of attribution, meaning that you must cite all sources consulted in preparing your papers. As stated in the Student Handbook, Every member of the University community is expected to maintain the highest standards of academic honesty. A student shall not receive credit for work that is not the product of the student s own effort. Examples of penalties for a student found responsible for an infringement of academic honesty are no credit for the work in question, failure in the course, and the traditional range of conduct sanctions from disciplinary warning through permanent dismissal from the University. The use of any online translator will be considered as cheating. Experiential learning: Experiential learning in this class supports students in applying their knowledge and conceptual understanding to real-world situations, and teaches students develop to the greatest possible extent a competency in comprehending and producing the foreign language, both spoken and written, as well as socio-cultural competency in communicating with members of the target culture. In this course students will be engaged in authentic language experience and will have appreciation of other cultures while reflecting on practices and perspectives of their own culture. Students will gain competence in reading and writing; improve listening and

4 speaking skills; read selected newspapers articles and literary works (prose and poetry); enrich vocabulary that will help them communicate with native Hebrew speakers. Moreover, students will have the opportunity to create power point presentations, podcasts, roll-play, conversations, and create a Hebrew web page as well as a video.
